Splenectomy

A splenectomy is surgery to remove your spleen — the fist-sized organ that helps fight infection. You may need this surgery if you have a ruptured spleen, a blood disorder or cancer affecting your liver VSports. You can live a normal lifespan without a spleen, but you’ll need to take precautions to prevent infections, like staying up to date on vaccines.
